Youth Aid

LECP's focus is to provide effective, innovative, and young people focused services across the London region that meet local community priorities and support young people to achieve their full potential. For the past 3 years LECP has donated money to a local young person focused charity, to help support the work they do and improve the lives of young people.
This year, the donation was made to Youth Aid. Youth Aid is a small, voluntary sector youth organisation that carries out an extensive programme of work including, running drop-in advice and counseling sessions for young people and carrying out group work. Youth Aid works in collaboration with a number of organisations to develop appropriate responses for young people in the fields of health education, volunteering, employment, careers advice, and educational support.
Ian Porter, LECP's Chief Executive visited Youth Aid and presented Youth Aid's Director, Maria Dalrymple with a cheque for £250.00. Maria commented "We are most grateful for your support. All donations are put to the best use for the young people who connect with Youth Aid Lewisham".

Motivate to Achieve: Working with young adults in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets
LECP has successfully won a contract to deliver 'Motivate to Achieve' in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
'Motivate to Achieve', will provide individualised one to one support for 25 young adults aged 16-19 not in education, employment or training (NEET), through a range of adventure based personal and social development opportunities. 'Motivate to Achieve' works with young adults on intensive individually tailored programmes to increase knowledge on life choices. To do this, young adults will be challenged and introduced to new experiences therefore encouraging self awareness, raising aspirations and increasing social development.
Over 10 Weeks young adults will recieve:
- One-to-one advice sessions on EET
- A soft skills programme
- Opportunities to attend Residential activity
- Continuous information, advice and guidance
Project workers will also work with young adults to improve work skills including presentation, both in the way the young adults present themselves and in the way they work, communication, key skills, behaviour and attitude.
The 'Motivate to' brand: has been successfully replicated for projects run by LECP within London East boroughs e.g. 'Motivate to Work', 'Motivate to Succeed' and 'Motivate to Achieve'. In each instance, outputs and outcomes have been met with young adults gaining real benefits from attending the project, many have moved on to training and work opportunities.
"This project was extremely useful and gave me a huge confidence boost and motivation. I also did training in First Aid and Health & Safety and am currently in a temporary job in a retail shop in Central London"

E is for Excellence!
LECP has been successfully reaccredited in the EFQM Recognised for Excellence quality assessment.
The assessment took place in October 2008 and measured LECP on the criteria that underpins the EFQM Excellence Model; Leadership, People, Policy and Strategy Partnerships and Resources, Processes, Customer, People and Society Results.
Two EFQM assessors spent a week finding out about LECP, our processes and people. They spent time within each department and gathered the views of employees, young people, partners and other key stakeholders. At the end of the quality assessment, LECP was presented with a report which outlines areas of strengths and gave recommendations for future practice.
Feedback included that although LECP is not a huge organisation it achieves its results delighting all stakeholders in a balanced way. Assessors went on to report that
"Excellent organisations will have relevant ways to measure how they operate across the range of activities and stakeholders. Especially for an organisation of this size, it is not about creating a resource-hungry bureaucracy of measurement, but about developing something useful and appropriate to the organisation. As well as tracking results across all stakeholders to understand the extent to which it has succeeded and achieved balance, the information and understanding of needs is used to develop services and meet and anticipate the needs of all stakeholders."
They then pinpointed on LECP's vision and stated the following:
"One of the overriding themes that we experienced in LECP is the clear customer focus, exhibited especially - but certainly not exclusively - by the people working face-to-face with young people. A sense of passion, or vocation, came across from all those we met. This feeds into personally tailoring the services for young people to meet their individual needs."
LECP is recommended for Recognised for Excellence at the 3 star level.
