Borough Information, Advice & Guidance and Support Services
Redbridge
The LECP Community PA team in Redbridge works in partnership with the Careers IAG team and a range of statutory and voluntary services to deliver the Connexions service in Redbridge. The LECP team consists of 9 FTE Community PAs, an Operations Manager and an administrator, and delivers a specialised and intensive IAG and support service, involving both preventative work and crisis intervention, to about 400 of the most vulnerable young people in Redbridge.
The work of the PAs contributes to local targets and plans around teenage pregnancy, substance misuse by young people, crime prevention, care leavers and NEET reduction targets. The team works with agencies within IYSS to make services available in the community particularly through One Stop Shops. They deliver a service of Information Advice Guidance (IAG) to those most vulnerable including a particular focus on those who are homeless, young people with LDD, those with substance misuse issues, youth offenders and young parents.
In addition to the community based work, PAs are deployed at a number of schools, including the PRU, delivering intensive IAG and support to young people of school age experiencing personal issues or crisis situations, those at risk of not achieving their full potential and those at risk of exclusion or becoming NEET.
Newham IAG service
In August 2008 LECP took over the contract to provide the careers focussed IAG service to young people in Newham. The service provides a comprehensive IAG service to all young people in Newham schools, colleges and training providers, supporting their progression into post 16 education, employment and training (EET) opportunities, and specialised services to young people with special needs.
The service consists of 10 PAs, 4 Employment and Training Advisers (ETAs), 2 SEN PAs, 2 Team Leaders, an Area Manager plus administrative support.
The team work closely with the 14-19 group, education and training providers and other agencies in the borough who provide services to young people, to identify those most at risk of becoming NEET, to provide particular support to them, and refer them to other agencies who can provide specialised or more intensive support.
PAs are organised into two teams, and are based at One Stop Shops in the borough, one team at the YIACS at Stratford and the other at the Y-POD at East Ham, and from there provide services to young people and providers in two of the four Newham quadrants. PAs work closely with a range of agencies based there, to provide a comprehensive IAG and support service to young people in the community, especially those who are NEET.
