Beginning
M* had moved from Malawi 6 moths before she signed onto the program.
She had not engaged with any provider or educational establishment . She had not met any new people outside of her family since coming to the UK, as she stayed in the family home and rarely left. M found communicating challenging. M's long term goals are to work with or help people and achieve qualifications in numercay and literacy.
Middle
Activities were agreed on by M and I to help break down her barriers. I worked with M on her communication, playing games and drawing pictures helped M to tell me how she was feeling, this provided a talking point, enabling me to ask questions. This built up our rapport.
During M's time on the AA she has signed up to a number of courses including, health and social care, first aid and has taken exams in numeracy and literacy. M is currently on a health and social care course at Lewisham College.
End
M has successfully moved from not being in education, employment or training into education and is still training to improve her skills. M is now attending a 17 week NVQ1 in IT. M's self confidence has increased, she feels emotionally stronger.
